We earlier filed a report about the agitation by telecom operators in Nigeria trying to increase the prices of their services to Nigerians.
This development has caused an uproar in Nigeria. Nigerians weren’t too pleased after the telecoms wrote to the Nigerian Communications Commission to demand wn upward review of the prices of data, calls and short message service (SMS).
Well, after this had happened, we were triggered to find out how much people in other African countries pay for telecoms to get access to their services.
We wanted to find out if Nigeria falls within the countries that have the most expensive Mobil data package plans.
After our findings, we git to know that Nigeria has one of the cheapest prices for mobile data on the continent.
From facts checked, about 480 Africans currently have access to mobile internet and these people buy internet data either on a daily, weekly and monthly basis just to stay connected to the internet. It might interest you to know that these 480 million people all do not pay the same prices for the service.
With that said, we shall pay much attention to the 20 African countries with the most expensive average prices of data.

1. Equatorial Guinea:
Equatorial Guinea as it stands today has the most expensive prices for internet data with one gigabyte costing as much as $49.67.
2. Sao Tome and Principe:
In Sao Tome and Principe, one-gigabyte data costs $30.97.
3. Malawi:
Malawians pay as much as $25.46 per gigabyte in their country fie internet data.
4. Chad:
Chad, a Sahelian country in Africa pays $23.33 per gigabyte for mobile data.
5. Namibia:
Namibians spend ms as much as $22.37 to buy a gigabyte of data just to stay connected to the internet.
6. Central African Republic:
In the Central African Republic, citizens spend $9.03 on one gigabyte of data.
7. Seychelles:
Seychelles is an Island African country that pays $8.64 for mobile internet data.
8. Gambia:
Prices of gigabyte data in Gambia are $5.86.
9. Mauritania:
Mauritania pays $5.56 for mobile internet data.
10. Madagascar:
In this country, the average price for one-gigabyte data is $5:14.
11. Gabon:
The average price for one-gigabyte data in Gabon is $4.82.
12. Cape Verde:
Here, the average price for one-gigabyte data is $4.78.
13. Togo:
Togolese spend an average of $4.69 to buy one-gigabyte data.
14. Burkina Faso:
Here, the average price for one-gigabyte data is $4.52.
15. Guinea-Bissau:
The average price for one-gigabyte data in this country is $4.41.
16. Botswana:
Botswanans spend an average of $3.92 for one-gigabyte data.
17. Benin:
People in Benin Republic spend an average of $3.61 for one-gigabyte data.
18. Mali:
In this country, the average price of one-gigabyte data is $3.28.
19. Sierra Leone:
Here, the average price for one-gigabyte data is $3.26.
20. Comoros:
In Comoros, the average price of one-gigabyte data is $3.21.
